Aperture-Gallery2 Keyword Bug Workaround
If like me you use Apple’s Aperture photo software and want keywords to appear in a Gallery2 image, here is a laborious but effective workaround.
You need Photoshop CS or higher, as far as I can tell. It works in CS and CS2.
- Assign kewords to an image in Aperture.
- Export the image from Aperture, making sure Aperture > Presets > Image Export > Include Metadata is checked.
- Open the image in Photoshop then Save As jpg
- Upload the image to Gallery as you normally would. The IPTC: Keywords field should now be populated.
My research on this perplexing problem revealed Apple’s return characters in the metadata Keyword field were causing it to be unreadable by Gallery’s EXIF parser. Using Photoshop rewrites the metadata.
I’ve automated the whole process using Automator and Applescript so that I can export from Aperture en masse, and the images are likewise moved up to the server via FTP en masse. Contact me if you want these scripts.
I hope this helps you.
